Former defensive end Coy Bacon, who played with the Rams from 1968 to 1972, was charged Wednesday with possession of cocaine, according to a police report in Chillum, Md.

Bacon, 42, and a companion, Velda Fowler, 33, were arrested Tuesday after an informant told police that two people would be going to an apartment in Chillum to buy narcotics. Police observed Bacon and Fowler leaving the apartment in a Washington suburb, and the two were apprehended as they started to drive away.

Police said that one gram of cocaine was found in a cigarette pack Bacon was carrying. Bacon was released on personal recognizance, and Fowler, who also was charged with possession of cocaine, was released on $5,000 bond.

Scales, bags and large quantities of cutting and packaging materials were discovered in the unoccupied apartment, but no drugs were found except for traces of cocaine on a bedroom floor.
