Westchester : Cut in Liquor Licenses Denied
The Coalition of Concerned Communities has lost its appeal before the Los Angeles City Council to reduce the number of liquor licenses conditionally approved for the Howard Hughes Center development in northeastern Westchester.
On Tuesday the council voted 13 to 0 to grant conditional approval for 12 liquor licenses. Eight of the licenses can only be used in restaurants.
Coalition President Patrick McCartney urged the council to reduce the number of licenses because several private grammar schools are within a quarter-mile of the project.
Bill McGregor, general manager of the Tooley and Co. development firm, which is building the project, said 12 licenses is “a moderate number” for the 69-acre development. He also pointed out that each license must receive final approval from the city’s zoning administrator before it can be used.
