Pacific 1000 : Seaman and Richardson Win 9th Day

Roy Seaman of Malibu and Greg Richardson of Myrtle Beach, S.C. teamed to win the ninth leg of the Pacific 1000 catamaran race Thursday, traveling from Oxnard to Santa Barbara, via Anacapa Island, in 6 hours, 29 minutes and 2 seconds.

The pair moved into second place in the overall standings, behind leaders Randy Smyth of Huntington Beach and Jim Hill of San Francisco, who finished fourth Thursday with a time of 6:39:27.

Larry Harteck (Santa Barbara) and Eric Brinton (San Diego) finished second Thursday and are third in the overall standings. The eight teams race today from Santa Barbara back to Oxnard via Santa Cruz Island in what is considered the most dangerous leg of the voyage.

The 82-foot Coast Guard Cutter Point Bridge will follow today’s fleet, which is expected to complete the race in about 24 hours. The 11th and final leg of the race is Sunday from Oxnard to Huntington Beach.
