The judgment was against Naniwa Seimitsu and its U.S. subsidiaries, GMB East and GMB West, which had been distributing automotive universal joints in simulated Ford packaging. The trial took place in Los Angeles. In 1984, the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles authorized seizure of the company’s universal joints in spurious Ford packaging from GMB facilities in Los Angeles and New Jersey. More than 1,800 parts were seized. The case is one of 10 similar legal actions that Ford has filed against more than 30 corporations in five states and the District of Columbia.
