State Film to Promote Chastity
I believe that the issue of peer pressure was overlooked in your editorial with regard to teen-age sexual practices.
As with drugs, teen-agers need to be able to stand up and say “No.” The sexual act is a sacred union between two persons in love. It should not be degraded or relegated to just another thing teens will do.
No one ever died from abstinence. If more people practiced abstinence, there would be fewer unwanted pregnancies and less need for abortion. If teens are permitted and willing to accept responsibility for their own actions and the consequences of the actions, abstinence should not be seen as a form of ignoring one’s sexuality, rather, it is a decision and a choice to face up to the responsibilities of using that sexuality in an appropriate manner.
Rather than becoming a youth-cult film, the film in question may encourage teens experiencing peer pressure to say “No.”
