A federal judge has ordered USX Corp. to pay $16 million in damages to about 8,000 black workers who allegedly were denied jobs as unskilled laborers by the company in the 1970s, Richard Freeman, a lawyer representing the plaintiffs, said Monday. The damage award stems from a class-action suit. The corporation said it will appeal.
