Cipher Data Closes for Repairs

Cipher Data Products said Tuesday that it has closed its Garden Grove manufacturing plant for at least the next two weeks to repair overhead utility lines that crashed Sunday night when support structures apparently failed.
The San Diego-based company, which manufactures data storage products for business computers, has released its estimated 750 Garden Grove factory employees until the plant is repaired.
A spokesman said the company does not expect the incident to seriously interrupt production.
The spokesman said the company had been transferring the manufacturing of its quarter-inch tape cartridges from Garden Grove to Singapore. The Garden Grove plant will be used to make reel-to-reel cartridges previously manufactured in San Diego, and the San Diego facility will be used for product development.
