Huntington Beach : Bandit Hits B of A, Escapes With Cash

Share

A man disguised in a blond wig and brandishing a long-barreled gun walked into a Bank of America branch Tuesday and escaped with an undetermined amount of cash, police reported.

Sgt. Bill Peters said the man entered the bank on Admiralty Drive at 10:50 a.m. He stood in line behind other customers and when he approached a teller he pulled the gun and demanded money.

Peters said the robber then laid two objects that he claimed were dynamite sticks on the counter and told everyone in the bank to lie down. He then jumped over the counter and cleaned out two other cash drawers.

The police spokesman said the man ran out of the bank, jumped over a brick wall in the parking lot and disappeared into a residential area. Moments later, the man ran back to the parking lot and drove away in a 1977 or 1978 black Cadillac.

Peters said the bandit was last seen driving south on Pacific Coast Highway.

The robber was described as black, in his 30s and of medium build. He was wearing a narrow-brim hat over the wig, Peters said.
