Closing arguments were set in Fort Myers, Fla., for today in the first-degree murder trial of tobacco heir Steven Wayne Benson, accused in the pipe-bombing deaths of his mother and adoptive brother. Benson, 35, who did not take the stand, is also charged with attempted first-degree murder of his sister. The prosecution rested its case without calling any more witnesses. Circuit Judge Hugh Hayes rejected a defense motion to acquit Benson, based on lack of evidence.
