Cuba Threatens Boycott of ’88 Olympic Games

Cuba will not participate in the 1988 Summer Olympics unless South Korea, the chosen host, and North Korea are designated as co-hosts, Cuban leader Fidel Castro said in a published interview Wednesday.
“The firm stand of Cuba is not to participate in the Olympic Games if they are not co-hosted,” Castro told the North Korean newspaper Rodong Sinmun (Workers News), the official organ of the (Communist) Workers Party of Korea.
Excerpts of the interview were reported by the official Korean Central News Service in a dispatch from Pyongyang monitored in Tokyo.
