It’s more of the same for San Diego’s weather this weekend, as the night and morning low clouds linger at the beaches and afternoon sunshine warms the inland areas.

Widely scattered thunderstorms in the mountains and deserts are expected today, mostly in the afternoon and evening hours, according to National Weather Service forecaster Wally Cegiel.

“There’s not going to be much change,” Cegiel said. “There’s still enough moisture for the threat of some afternoon thunderstorms in the mountains and deserts, but they’ll be widely scattered and quite isolated. There’s really no chance of them coming into the inland valleys.”

Desert dwellers might welcome thunderstorms and rain, with highs predicted from 105 to 112 degrees and lows dipping into the 80s.

Highs at the beaches should reach 68 to 73 over the weekend, with lows in the mid-60s. Surf is expected to be 2 to 3 feet, and ocean temperature will be near 67 degrees.

“In August we usually get a lot more clearing than we’ve been getting,” Cegiel said. “It isn’t as bad, but it’s really been quite similar to the weather we had in June.”

The inland valleys will have highs in the 84- to 92-degree range and overnight lows between 56 and 66. The humidity will remain around 70%.

“The humidity in the inland areas has been quite normal,” Cegiel said. “It really shouldn’t get up in that area where it aggravates everyone, that real mugginess we had a few weeks ago.”
