Taking the Whip to Hollywood Park

Share

Comparing Hollywood Park with Santa Anita is like comparing a Volkswagen with a Ferrari. They charge you $4 for preferred parking, then push the barriers away back so you might as well park in the general area. The downstairs clubhouse men’s room is always a mess. The water faucets just barely stick over the basin so you can’t get your hands under the water. There is no hot water like at Santa Anita.

When you sit in the ground floor clubhouse steel benches, you cannot hear the track announcer. There is a huge television screen on the clubhouse floor which is always on, but there is no picture, only sound. I can remember when the clubhouse was the jewel of the park along with a first-class dining room with great service. Now it is fast-food service and leaky faucets.

If Santa Anita and Hollywood Park were running at the same time, I would pay double to go to Santa Anita.
