The Chicago White Sox may sign 37-year-old outfielder George Foster, who was released earlier this week by the New York Mets, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
The Mets will pay Foster for the rest of this season and pay him $1 million for next year, so the White Sox could get him for the major league minimum of $60,000. Other American League teams, most notably the Detroit Tigers, have also indicated an interest in Foster because of his potential as a designated hitter.
