Vacant Office Space Spurts in Inland Empire

Fueled by a supply of new office space, the vacancy rate in the western part of the Inland Empire increased from 25% in the first quarter of this year to 30% at the end of the second quarter.

A survey of 31 buildings totaling 1.7 million square feet in Chino, Fontana, Montclair, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga and Upland by the Ontario office of Grubb & Ellis Commercial Brokerage Services revealed that vacant space totaled 513,228 square feet.

Ontario had a whopping 48% vacancy factor--208,401 square feet vacant on a base of 435,048 square feet. Rancho Cucamonga had a 29% vacancy rate at the end of the second quarter, followed by Upland with 17% and Montclair with 15%.
