California City Bank said it will open its first branch office next month--in a vacant bank building in east Orange where Robert Hoyt, California City’s vice chairman and executive vice president, once worked as branch manager.
The building, on East Chapman Avenue at Prospect, was built by the old First National Bank of Orange County, and Hoyt was manager there in 1973. First National was taken over by Wells Fargo Bank in 1978, and Wells Fargo closed the office in 1984.
The 3-year-old California City Bank has signed a 10-year lease on the building and plans to open the branch Sept. 15.
