The California Ballet honored its own Sunday afternoon during the company’s 18th annual meeting, held at the Hilton Hotel.

An award for Outstanding Dancer of the Year was presented to soloist Sylvia Poolos, while Jennifer Curry, one of three dancers who represented the company in international competition earlier this summer, was named Student of the Year.

Director Maxine Mahon announced the troupe’s 1986-87 season during the afternoon, noting, “We’ll be doing more performances downtown this year.”

“Giselle” will kick off the ballet season Oct. 17 at the Spreckels, with additional performances at the East County Performing Arts Center scheduled for the following weekend. The Cal Ballet’s annual “Nutcracker” will ring in the holiday season at the center on Dec. 12. And, as usual, the production will move on to the Civic Theatre on the 19th, where it will be danced to a live orchestra.

The Civic Theatre will be the scene of the company’s March performances as well. A full-length production of “Coppelia” is due for a revival during the weekend of March 13.

Mahon is readying a new work, “Western Orpheus” for an April airing.
