Attorneys for Griffin O’Neal, 21-year-old son of actor Ryan O’Neal, entered pleas of innocent on his behalf to six charges, including boat manslaughter, reckless driving and negligent driving of a boat, arising from the death of his friend Gian-Carlo Coppola, son of film director Francis Ford Coppola. A judge in Annapolis, Md., ordered O’Neal to post $20,000 bond to remain free pending trial. Coppola, 23, was fatally injured Memorial Day when a boat driven by O’Neal struck a tow rope connecting two other boats. If found guilty on the manslaughter charge, O’Neal could face a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment and a $1,000 fine.
