MSI Data Corp. Reports Gain in Quarterly Net

MSI Data Corp. is continuing its dramatic turnaround into its new fiscal year.

The Costa Mesa maker of portable data terminals (PDT’s), which are used to take inventories in supermarkets and retail stores, said that its net income for the first quarter ended June 28 was $191,000, up from a loss of $377,000 in the similar period last year. Revenues for the period came to $15.4 million, up 12.4% from $13.7 million last year.

The company attributed the improvement in part to a payoff from last year’s efforts at cutting its operating costs, which included a cut in staff during a restructuring of its manufacturing operations. The company also redesigned its existing product line and has improved its pricing.

The company also said that its new line of PDT’s, which were introduced early last year, are increasingly being accepted in the market and have brought it several new accounts over the past year and half.
