Pomona : Birthday Planning Begins

Share

The Pomona Centennial Committee is seeking volunteers to help with festivities leading up to the city’s 100th birthday on Jan. 6, 1988. The celebration will begin July 4 of that year and continue until January.

Service clubs, churches, businesses and community organizations are needed to help with organizing and fund raising, said Nancy Weatherton, assistant to the mayor and City Council.

To coordinate events, the council has named an executive committee headed by James Baker, an attorney and former Pomona mayor. Committee members are Rosanne Bader, wife of Assemblyman Charles Bader (R-Pomona) and a teacher at Emerson Junior High School; Fire Chief John Fowlkes; Terry Stemple of Pomona Heritage; and Dave Streeter, who has served as president of the Historical Society of Pomona Valley and is keeper of special collections at the Pomona City Library.
