Tass said Friday that about 500 families evacuated from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster area have moved into new homes built for them in the Makarovsky district near Kiev.

It said the Makarovsky homes are being provided free of charge, have three or four rooms each, and come equipped with furniture and kitchen utensils. Barns, food storage areas and garden plots are also being provided, Tass said.

The Makarovsky district, about 90 miles southwest of Chernobyl, was a major receiving area for evacuees from the April 26 disaster zone.
