Northridge Woman Wins Big in Spin

A Northridge woman who bought a lottery ticket in a Lucky market won $1 million in the California Lottery Big Spin on Saturday.

Barbara Ferguson, a probation officer for Los Angeles County, said that after spinning the wheel and seeing the pointer stop at a million-dollar slot, “I almost killed the announcer, I was so excited.”

Ferguson, who is single, was joined on the stage by her mother and other relatives who had flown to Sacramento from Florida to see her spin the wheel of fortune.

She was the only one of the six contestants in Saturday’s spin who won $1 million. No one won the grand prize, which was raised to $9.5 million.

Ferguson bought the ticket at the supermarket at Devonshire Street and Reseda Boulevard after seeing a woman ahead of her in the checkout line buy one.

“The first thing I’m going to do is take a trip around the world to recuperate,” Ferguson said. “Then I’m going to pay some bills, and some family bills.”

Finally, she said, after investing some of the money, “I’m going to spoil myself by going on a shopping spree.”

She said she did not intend to quit her job.
