The Air Force, a labor union and Lockheed-Georgia Co. have become embroiled in a dispute over whether the company is paying its hourly workers too much. A Marietta, Ga., local of the machinists union maintains that the Air Force is engaged in a “heavy-handed attempt to control the content of our labor contract.” The Air Force says it believes that Lockheed’s wages are substantially higher than prevailing rates and does not want to compensate the company for any higher wages that it agrees to pay in future contracts.
