A top official of a Soviet tractor company operating in Milwaukee has been granted permanent asylum in the United States, the State Department said. Georgy Gindra, a Soviet citizen and deputy general director of Belarus Machinery, reportedly made the asylum request from a hospital where he was taken Sunday with an undisclosed ailment. Gindra, believed to be in his 40s, reportedly lives in New York and makes monthly visits to the Milwaukee factory, which makes tractors for the U.S. market.
