Actor Jim Brown was arrested Friday on suspicion of assaulting a 22-year-old woman who identified herself as his fiancee and accused the former football star of hitting her in the face during an argument in Brown’s Hollywood Hills home, police said.

Brown, 50, who surrendered without incident to officers about two hours after the assault reportedly took place, was released at 8:30 a.m. on $5,000 bail. He was not available for comment after his release.

Debra Clark told police that Brown struck her several times in a dispute early Friday morning. Los Angeles Police Sgt. Chuck Urso said Clark told investigators that the dispute was “about a jealousy thing that happened a few days ago.”

Locked Inside Bedroom

Urso said Clark called police to Brown’s home about 3 a.m. Friday after she had locked herself inside a bedroom. “She locked herself inside to get away from him and she got a .44 magnum,” Urso said. But the woman did not use the weapon and gave it to officers when they arrived at the home.

There were five other people in the house at the time, including Brown’s 4-year-old daughter. One of the others, a woman, refused to talk to officers about what went on inside the house, investigators said.

The little girl was placed in the care of friends, Urso said.

As Brown was being booked at the Hollywood police station, Clark was treated at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center for minor bruises under the right eye and on the left arm.

After Clark was released from the hospital, she went back to Brown’s home, gathered her belongings and left.

Removed Clothes From Home

“At her request, we sent some units to the home to monitor the situation while she got her clothes,” Urso said.
