AND FROM OUR CONSUMER ALERT DEPT.: Mike Rutherford’s new band, Mike & the Mechanics, has had a string of pop hits recently, so it seems a little unusual that the ex-Genesis member has a solo album out now too, called “Acting Very Strange.” Of course, what’s strange--and very misleading--about the record is that it’s not a new solo record at all. It’s actually a 4-year-old solo flop that Atlantic Records has rereleased in hopes of capitalizing on Rutherford’s current success. Of course, in keeping with standard industry operating procedure, the package contains no warning sticker alerting record buyers that they’re paying for a cobwebby old disc.
