3 Companies, Couple Win Energy Awards

The California Energy Commission has named three California companies and a husband-and-wife team winners in a nationwide energy program.

Mr. and Mrs. William Jones of Lotus won an award for their proposed system of valves and mechanisms that could solve some inefficiencies in the production of crude oil.

Stockton-based Metlund Enterprises won an award for a device that saves hot water. Auburn-based News Reused was honored for collecting newspapers, processing them into cellulose insulation, and using the finished product to insulate and weatherize 224 homes and other facilities in Placer County.

Los Angeles-based Luz International Ltd. won an award for its proposed solar generating system. An award was also given to New York’s Texaco Inc. for its role in the development of a clean, coal-fired electric power plant in Daggett, Calif.
