Former Olympic sprinter Calvin Smith, the world record-holder at 100 meters, said Friday that he is moving from Alabama to Arizona to train for the 1988 Olympic Games.

Smith said the warm Phoenix weather and the coaching of Richard Thompson here were the reasons behind the shift from his native Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The 25-year-old Smith set the world record of 9.93 seconds in the 100 meters in 1983 at the U.S. Olympic Festival at Colorado Springs, Colo.
