Joseph Leonard’s annual salary increased to $225,000 a month after he ordered operating expenses pared by $100 million at the financially troubled airline. Eastern spokesman Jerry Cosley said Leonard had received no raise when he initially took over as chairman from retiring Frank Borman earlier this summer. The board of directors vote for Leonard’s raise was unanimous, with no objections from the two union representatives on the carrier’s 21-member board, Cosley said.
