Jobs: Passed and sent to the Senate on a 41-23 vote for concurrence in Assembly changes a bill (SB2532) by Senate President Pro Tem David A. Roberti (D-Los Angeles) to require 50% of the hours spent on public works projects to be performed by California residents.

Computer Terminals: Passed and sent to the governor’s desk on a 47-28 vote a bill (AB2742) by Assemblyman Richard E. Floyd (D-Hawthrone) that would require the state to study the health effects of working at computer terminals.

Citizen Complaints: Passed and sent to the Senate on a 42-30 vote for concurrence in Assembly changes a bill (SB1820) by Sen. Dan McCorquodale (D-San Jose) to require state and local agencies that receive missent citizen complaints to refer the complaints to the correct agency.

Tour Buses: Passed and sent to the Assembly on a 39-0 vote for concurrence in Senate changes a bill (AB3262) by Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sepulveda) to require tour and charter buses to be inspected every 90 days and to tighten licensing requirements for drivers. The bill was sparked by a recent accident in which a gambling tour bus plunged into the Walker River, killing a group of Southern California senior citizens.

Athletic Recruitment: Passed and sent to the Assembly on a 29-0 vote for concurrence in Senate changes a bill (AB2753) by Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) to provide civil penalties for alumni or boosters of a college or university who violate laws by illegally recruiting high school athletes with money or gifts.

Pesticides: Passed and sent to the governor on a 39-0 vote a bill (SB1703) by Sen. Art Torres (D-South Pasadena) to prohibit importation of fresh or processed food from foreign countries containing a residue of pesticides banned or unregistered in California.
