Washington’s Reggie Rogers to Wear Brother’s Number on Jersey Armband
Defensive tackle Reggie Rogers of the Washington Huskies will wear a black arm band with the number 20 on his football jersey this season.
“It’s something to remind me of a special person,” the 6-6, 270-pound senior explained, his voice barely audible.
But when the Pacific 10 Conference Skywriters visited the Washington campus Monday, Rogers made it clear he didn’t want to talk about the cocaine-caused death of his older brother, Don, at the family home in Sacramento this summer.
Don was a starting safety for the Cleveland Browns and a former UCLA All-American.
Asked what was the toughest time for him, Reggie Rogers replied, “Probably when it happened.”
Queried if it was difficult for him to talk about his brother’s death, Rogers answered: “I thought the questions were supposed to be about football. If you’re going to keep asking about these other things, I’m going to leave.”
Rogers previously volunteered for drug testing at any time this season and has dedicated the season to his late brother.
