Santa Monica : Hot Line Receives Grants
The Santa Monica/Westside Hotline has received $1,000 grants from the city of Santa Monica and Travelers Insurance and $300 from General Telephone Co, according to Director Susan Albrecht.
The 15-year-old hot line, (213) 394-3756, is staffed by volunteers. It takes calls 24 hours a day and handles about 500 to 600 calls a month covering such problems as loneliness and depression, substance abuse and suicide.
Volunteers donate three hours a week after completing eight weekly three-hour training sessions and one daylong seminar. The next class will meet in September.
