U.S.-backed Nicaraguan guerrillas killed the commander of a crack counterinsurgency unit and five of his troops, official and rebel sources said. Capt. Benito Arauz was killed in northern Jinotega province in combat with the rebels, a Defense Ministry statement said. Arauz’ unit, the BLI Special Combat Batallion, was intercepted by contras, as the rebels are called, along a road between the towns of Wiwili and Patasma, about 105 miles north of Managua, the statement said.
