‘Sick and Tired’ Letter Writers

I am appalled. Hard on the heels of the sensitive note sounded by Myron J. Arnold (Letters, Aug. 19), who reminded us that no risk to health is ever “trivial,” you have the unmitigated gall to print Steve Allen’s letter. Allen makes bold to tell us that our health and our sleepiness should be kept separate, a kind of physical apartheid.

What Allen forgets is that the Constitution gives every American the right to be both sick and tired at the same time. Perhaps Allen is angling here for more socialistic legislation that would put us all in long segregated lines, one for those who have permission to be sick, another for those with enough political clout to get a tiredness voucher.

What about our senior citizens, Mr. Steve Allen? Haven’t they earned the right to be just as sick and tired as they want to be without some government bureaucrat checking to see if their Medi-Cal is used up?

I, myself, for one, am Thoroughly Disgusted, and I View With Alarm Allen’s proposal.

I thank God that there are people out there like Myron J. Arnold and his prompted letter to remind us that guarding our health is never a trivial pursuit.
