KEN RUSSELL SUES FILM COMPANY
Film director Ken Russell has filed suit for more than $1 million against New World Productions, alleging that the company failed to pay him on schedule for directing the 1984 film “Crimes of Passion.”
According to the lawsuit filed in federal court Thursday, Russell entered into an agreement with the Los Angeles company to direct the film, which starred actress Kathleen Turner, for $578,514 and 20% of the profits.
The agreement called for Russell to be paid $78,514 during the production and for the company to retain $500,000 as Russell’s investment in the picture, the suit claims.
The suit, filed by attorney Richard A. Rosen, seeks unspecified compensation and $1 million in punitive damages.
Lee Rosenbaum, vice president of legal and business affairs, said that New World would have no comment on the suit.
