The Nation : Weapons Lawsuit Planned

An environmental activist group, the Foundation on Economic Trends, accused the Defense Department of violating federal law by running a multimillion-dollar research program to develop a defense against biological weapons and said it will file suit today in Washington to halt the program. The group, which successfully sued the Army in a similar action, will request both preliminary and permanent injunctions against continued defensive research until environmental impact studies are conducted. The group describes itself as a “clearinghouse for public information” on the implications of such research.
