The employees will leave by Oct. 31 under voluntary severance and enhanced early retirement programs announced by Hewlett-Packard on June 12. The voluntary severance plan, in which 765 employees will participate, provides six months’ salary plus one-half month’s salary for each year of HP service up to a total compensation of 12 months’ salary. Seven hundred fifty employees will take advantage of the voluntary early retirement program, which was available to 1,800 U.S. employees 55 or older with at least 15 years of company service. Those leaving under the early retirement program will receive one-half month’s salary for each year of service--up to a maximum of 12 months’ salary--in addition to funds that already have accumulated in their accounts under the company’s regular retirement plan.
