MOVING RIGHT ALONG: We knew that pop music is a big hit at wedding ceremonies these days, but apparently funerals are an appropriate occasion too. Oakland drug lord Felix Wayne Mitchell, described by law-enforcement officials as “a low-life scumbag,” died recently after being knifed to death while serving a life sentence in Leavenworth Federal Prison. As hundreds of mourners filed by his casket during the funeral, they were serenaded by a recording of Sade’s “Smooth Operator.” . . . Meanwhile, if you’re going to see the Monkees at the Greek Theatre tonight, odds are good that there’ll be a very special guest sitting in on several songs with the band. . . . And Magic Johnson was at the New Edition/Morris Day concert last weekend. The Lakers superstar sat front-row center, later moving to the backstage areas, where he patiently posed for pictures with the groups. When it comes to patience, Morris Day’s contingent of fans needed the most. The ex-Time star wore out his welcome by arriving on stage late and then performing a lackluster 45-minute set, which reached its nadir when he modestly informed the crowd, “Ain’t none of you as cool as I am--remember that!”
