The Red Tape in Insurance Needs Cutting

Share

As a health claims examiner, I have to disagree with John F. Lawrence.

The only reason there are pre-existing conditions on many policies is because the company buying the insurance can save premium money that way. As for red tape, if people would READ and fill out the form completely, there would be a lot less trouble. You can’t believe how many people don’t do this.

Usually the insurance company only needs one or two forms a year per person. If they ask for more, it is probably due to the policyholder (that’s your company, folks). You’d be surprised at how much companies want to know about their workers.

Insurance companies can’t do it all by themselves. We handle many claims a day. Unfortunately, there are many liars and cheats out there, they see the big bad insurance company as a way to make a few bucks with fraudulent forms, dishonest doctors and altered amounts on bills. I am no “company man”--just ask my boss. But there are two sides to every story.
