Costa Mesa : City Seeks Applicants to Serve on Cable TV Panel
Residents interested in serving on the city’s new 11-member Cable Television Committee still may apply, city officials announced last week.
The council extended the Aug. 20 deadline because of an insufficient number of applicants.
Ann Gyben, an assistant to the city manager, said Friday that the City Council is expected to make its selections known at its Sept. 15 meeting.
Nine residents and two council members will make up the committee and advise the city on matters pertaining to cable television. In addition, the committee will be asked to make recommendations on how to allocate funds for local community programming.
Gyben said Copley/Colony Cablevision, which has had the exclusive franchise rights to Costa Mesa’s cable television service since March, 1984, has set aside an initial $617,000 for community programming, which are broadcasts produced by and for local residents.
Individuals who want to serve on the committee should submit a letter and resume to the city manager’s office, City Hall, 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, Calif. 92626.
Gyben said that no television experience is necessary. Applicants should be residents of the city.
