Grant Awarded for Research on Ceramic Houses

A $40,000 grant to continue research on ceramic houses has been awarded to the Southern California Institute of Architecture by the National Endowment for the Arts.
The grant will make it possible for Prof. E. Nader Khalili to further develop the Geltaftan Earth-and-Fire system of architecture which strengthens adobe structures by firing them from the inside and making them more resistant to water and earthquakes.
Tsosie Tsinhnahjinnie, a student of Khalili’s, plans to build the ceramic houses on Tsinhnahjinnie’s Navajo reservation.
