The World : Sikh Arrested in 14 Killings
Security forces in India captured a Sikh terrorist suspect wanted in the ambush slayings of 14 Hindu bus passengers in Punjab state, police officials said. Baljit Singh, seized along with two others in a shoot-out in Chandigarh, is accused of ambushing an intercity bus near the Pakistan border July 25 and selectively killing Hindu passengers. Sikh passengers were not harmed. The massacre set off communal rioting in New Delhi in which six people died and 100 were wounded. Since the bus ambush, Punjab police have killed or captured more than 200 Sikh extremists, who demand an independent Sikh state.
