South Africa Orders 20 Black Schools Closed

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa —
More than 20 black schools were ordered closed Tuesday night in the South African government’s continuing crackdown on protests.
The director general of the Department of Education and Training, Braam Fourie, said some schools in the eastern Cape and near Johannesburg will remain closed until next year.
He said in a statement that student disruptions have made meaningful education impossible.
