Utah Senator Donating Kidney to Daughter, 27

WASHINGTON — Sen. Jake Garn (R-Utah) entered Georgetown University Hospital Tuesday to prepare for surgery today to donate a kidney to his daughter, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Susan Garn Horne, 27, of Vienna, Va., suffers from progressive kidney failure due to diabetes. Although Garn’s two sons also have been found to be compatible as potential donors, the senator decided he would give one of his kidneys.
