Prosecutors in Miami dropped all but one charge against George Mira Jr., star middle linebacker for the University of Miami, and they reduced the remaining count to a misdemeanor.

Mira, 21, was arrested Aug. 19 after an argument with his girlfriend on the campus. Mira was charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription when a steroid popular with body builders was found in his truck.

The possession charge was dropped, as were charges of disorderly conduct, fleeing a police officer and assault. A felony charge of assault on a police officer was reduced to simple battery, a misdemeanor. Maximum penalty for conviction on that charge would be a year in Dade County Jail.
