The World : Senate Backed on Sanctions

Share

House Democratic leaders agreed to recommend acceptance of the Senate’s version of legislation imposing economic sanctions on South Africa. A House vote could be held today and a finished bill could be sent to President Reagan early next week. To deal with concerns that the Senate bill could be interpreted to preempt state and local laws imposing stronger sanctions, the House will vote on a separate resolution saying it does not intend to preclude stronger local or state action against South Africa.
