Citations have been issued against two Orange County nursing homes, said Jacqueline Lincer, district administrator for the state Department of Health Services. She said the Carehouse Convalescent Hospital in Santa Ana was removed from Medicare and Medi-Cal rolls because of alleged inadequate care and poor laboratory services. Lincer said Fountain Convalescent Hospital in Orange was cited in August for allegedly giving one patient such inadequate care that within a year he was unable to walk. The latter facility remains eligible for Medicare and Medi-Cal, however. Both nursing homes are owned by Summit Care Corp. of Los Angeles, which owns Canyon Convalescent Hospital in Los Angeles; the hospital is under investigation by the Los Angeles city attorney after what Deputy City Atty. Gary Rowse said was a request by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services.
