IT ALL WORKS OUT
The two-story-high windows in the living and dining area of this 3000-square foot pent house condominium offer a commanding view of the Hollywood hills. Owner Patrick Netter, a fitness enthusiast whose firm designs and sells exercise equipment for home and corporate use, bought the house in 1983, shortly after the building was completed. He hired designer Darrell L. Wight to help him rework the interior.
One of Netter’s primary requests was to have a gym in the loft above the living and dining area. Filled with the latest workout equipment, Netter’s loft even incorporates a treadmill that is installed flush with the carpeted floor.
Another major improvement Wight made was redesigning the spa room, sheathing it in cedar and rebuilding the platforms. He then removed a bathtub in an adjacent bathroom and installed a sauna that is readily accessible from the spa.
Wight also designed an efficient, sun-filled office by enclosing one of two sheltered outdoor decks. He engineered several other changes, including the streamlining of a fireplace; inserting subtle-toned silk-covered chairs into angular niches cut into the marble hearth, and adding track and spot lighting for drama.
“Right here I have all the spatial advantages of a house with the convenience of a condominium,” Netter says, “plus the luxury of my own private health club. I hardly ever have to leave home.”
