Nancy McKeon, who plays Jo on “The Facts of Life,” is cast as Cindy Fralick, the woman who fought to join the ranks of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, in “Firefighter,” a new TV movie CBS plans to broadcast Sept. 23. She also served as one of the film’s executive producers.

Paul Sorvino will play David Addison’s father in the season premiere of “Moonlighting” on ABC Sept. 23. The story has the divorced dad showing up to ask his son (Bruce Willis) to be best man at his wedding.

Marsha Warfield has been hired to play a new bailiff character on the NBC comedy series “Night Court.” Warfield performs as a stand-up comic and an actress. She is replacing Florence Halop, who died earlier this year. The show will begin its fourth season Oct. 2.

“Guiding Light,” the CBS soap opera, will present its 10,000th episode Thursday. The show made its TV debut June 30, 1952, after 15 years on radio.

“Discover: The World of Science” will be back with five new specials for public television this season. With Peter Graves as host, the series will report on the use of video techniques to study fish, the development of new methods of predicting avalanches, the training of ice skaters with advanced biomechanics and the research that goes into creating a new food product.

Acapulco is the setting for the next Agatha Christie mystery on CBS, “Murder in Three Acts.” Peter Ustinov reprises his role as detective Hercule Poirot. Playing the suspects are Tony Curtis, Emma Samms, Lisa Eichhorn, Frances Lee McCain, Fernando Allende and Diana Muldaur, among others. The movie is scheduled for airing Sept. 30.

With the second miniseries about George Washington just a week away--it begins Sept. 21--another is in development about one of his contemporaries, Thomas Jefferson. Envisioned as a six-hour project, the script is being written by Gore Vidal, author of biographies of Aaron Burr and Abraham Lincoln.

Joan Allen, Aidan Quinn and James Whitmore have been signed to star in a new production of Arthur Miller’s 1947 play, “All My Sons.” It’ll be broadcast on PBS in January under the “American Playhouse” banner.

Former teen singing star Bobby Sherman, who appeared in “Here Come the Brides” back in 1968 (with David Soul), returns to TV as a regular in “Sanchez of Bel-Air,” a comedy series set to premiere on cable’s USA Network Oct. 3. It’s about a family, headed by Reni Santoni, that moves from East Los Angeles to Bel-Air. Sherman plays a neighbor.

Ted Danson and Ally Sheedy have the leading roles in “We Are the Children,” a movie for ABC that will depict the famine in Ethiopia. Danson plays a TV journalist who visits the country and Sheedy portrays a doctor working there. The film will be directed by Robert M. Young, who directed the current theatrical release “Extremities.”
