Alhambra : Condo Foes to Start Drive

A group seeking to rezone residential neighborhoods to prevent construction of condominiums and apartments will begin circulating petitions to put the issue on the ballot at a meeting at 7 tonight in the community room at Alhambra Community Hospital.

Doug Peake, a City Council candidate who has organized Residents Opposing Condos, said the group needs petitions signed by 5,800 registered voters by Oct. 28 to force a special election. Peake said construction of apartments and condominiums is leading to overcrowded schools, traffic congestion and a strain on police and other city services.
