U.S. Adds Gateways to Japan
Associated Press
WASHINGTON — The government today selected Portland, Ore., and Dallas-Fort Worth as gateway cities for service to Japan and added Delta and American to the short list of airlines serving the U.S.-Tokyo route.
Delta will fly from Portland; American from Dallas-Fort Worth. Northwest, United and Continental are currently the only U.S. carriers serving Japan. The opportunity for new gateways results from a 1985 agreement with Japan that allowed the United States to select two new passenger routes.
